The Obesity Treatment Centers of New Jersey offers both surgical and non-surgical options for weight loss and morbid obesity. The Laparoscopic Bariatric Program at Saint Barnabas Medical Center was started by Dr. Nusbaum back in 2000. In 2002, Dr. Michael Nusbaum started the Obesity and Weight Management Center of The Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center. In January 2006, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery bestowed the coveted Center of Excellence designation upon the practice and the program at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. In 2006 the centers launched an overseas program. This enables patients from other countries to come to the Saint Barnabas Medical Center- Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery, and experience the quality of the Bariatric Surgical Program. Support group meetings are held every two weeks with meetings specifically for Pre-op patients, Post-op patients, Long Term, Post-op patients, and soon a group specific for Lap Band patients.
